There is something incredibly special about watching your students realize that the world is so much bigger than the four walls of a classroom.

This weekend, I had the privilege of sponsoring several current and former Beauty Operator students to attend the Be+Well Beauty Conference in Las Vegas. While we didn’t spend every moment together, I loved knowing they were each finding their own path—attending classes, meeting educators and entrepreneurs, discovering new techniques, and imagining what their own future in this industry could become.

As an educator, these are the moments I hope for. Not just that my students learn how to perform a service, but that they begin to see themselves as professionals, leaders, lifelong learners, and creators of opportunity.

The best investment you will ever make is in yourself. Continued education isn’t an expense—it’s a commitment to your future. Every class you attend, every conversation you have, every new skill you learn becomes part of the professional you’re becoming.

To my students: thank you for saying yes to this experience, for representing Hawaiʻi with humility, curiosity, and aloha, and for embracing every opportunity to grow. I couldn’t be prouder.

After months of reflection, planning, and healing, I’m excited to share the next chapter of Lehiwa Beautique.

As many of you know, due to ongoing challenges with my hand, I have made the difficult decision to retire from performing services. While this chapter is bittersweet, my passion for Lehiwa, our clients, and our industry remains stronger than ever.

Lehiwa Beautique is not closing—it is evolving.

I am incredibly proud to introduce the talented women who will continue the heart and vision of Lehiwa:

✨ Sachi – A true beauty professional offering nails, lashes, waxing, facials, and skincare services. Her versatility, compassion, and dedication to her clients make her an incredible asset to our team.

✨ Heleina – Our nail queen. From the moment she completed her senior project at Lehiwa as a Maui High student, I knew she had something special. Her artistry, technical skill, and passion for nails continue to inspire me every day.

✨ Avry – Specializing in nail services while also offering waxing and facial treatments. Avry’s attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to growth make her a wonderful part of the Lehiwa family.

Together, these talented professionals represent the future of Lehiwa Beautique—continuing to provide the intimate, professional, personalized experience our clients have come to love.

While I may be stepping away from the treatment room, I will continue mentoring, teaching, supporting our team, and nurturing the vision that built this beautiful space.

The other night I sat down to create a slideshow of some of my favorite nail designs from over the years.

What I thought would be a simple project turned into something much more emotional.

As I sorted through thousands of photos, I found myself looking back at an entire chapter of my life. I saw the evolution of trends, techniques, creativity, confidence, and artistry. I saw the growth of a young nail technician who simply loved creating, into an artist, educator, mentor, and business owner.

What surprised me most was realizing that this video isn’t really about nails.

It’s about the people.

The conversations shared across the table.The laughter.The tears.The weddings, graduations, new babies, promotions, heartbreaks, and celebrations.The trust that so many of you placed in my hands for so many years.

Since announcing my retirement from performing services, several clients have reached out to tell me they are grieving. The truth is, I am too.

Not because I no longer love the work. I always will.

But because this career was never just a job. It became part of who I was.

Watching this slideshow reminded me of something important: these hands created beautiful things, but they also built relationships, confidence, community, and memories that will stay with me forever.

To every client who ever sat at my table, trusted my vision, shared their stories, supported my dreams, and allowed me to be part of their journey—thank you.

Some stories begin quietly… and before you know it, you’re witnessing someone step fully into who they were always meant to become.

I still remember when Heleina first walked into as a senior at Maui High School completing her senior project. From day one, there was something different about her. A spark. A determination. A level of artistry and focus that felt far beyond her years.

At just 17 years old, her nail art skills absolutely blew my mind. But more than talent, it was her hunger to learn that stood out the most. She wanted to understand every technique, every detail, every product. She asked questions, stayed curious, researched trends constantly, and poured herself wholeheartedly into becoming better every single day.

She never relied on natural talent alone. She worked for it.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching her evolve — not only as a nail technician, but as a young business woman finding her confidence, her voice, and her purpose. Her tenacity, discipline, and fearless drive to grow continue to inspire me.

There is something incredibly special about watching a young woman come full circle… from student, to artist, to professional.

And honestly? I knew someday I would be creating this post.

Because some people walk into your life carrying the quiet beginnings of greatness — and if you pay attention closely enough, you get to witness them bloom.

I am beyond proud of you, Heleina. Your journey is only just beginning, and I cannot wait to see where your passion, creativity, and fearless heart take you next.
