When I worked at Asana, Nick made me dinner every night and handled the bulk of the housework. During that time, my career was the priority for our family.

When I decided to leave tech and work for myself, we switched roles and his career became the priority.

Being able to switch off whose career is taking the lead and who is in the supporting role was a really important piece of data in my decision to marry Nick.

He can be the provider, but he can also support me in having a demanding career and taking the lead. Personally, I think that’s a green flag in a relationship and in a partner.

With his new schedule, he’ll be commuting to the South Bay three days a week, which is five hours of commuting a day. On those days, I’m taking on the supporting role.

Today I made a steak salad and it was delicious.

When Nick got home, he made us Palomas. We don’t drink much these days, but tonight felt like a good night for a cocktail as we adjust to this new routine. We make ours lower ABV by adding a lot more seltzer and skipping the grapefruit soda, so they’re lower sugar too.
