One of my favorite parts of this work happened today. 🖤🖤🖤

I had the opportunity to hand deliver a blood pressure cuff to one of our moms. We sat with her, answered her questions, reassured her, and made sure she felt heard, not rushed. During our visit, we talked through her blood pressure goals, the warning signs of preeclampsia, what prenatal testing we recommend, and why those tests matter. Education is one of the most powerful tools we can give our patients, but so is taking the time to listen.

We also talked about our program and what makes it different. Our moms don’t just receive prenatal care, they have access to culturally competent medical care, a midwife who understands their unique needs, and direct access to me for guidance, education, and support throughout their pregnancy.

This is why our work matters. Sometimes the most impactful intervention isn’t a medication or a test, it’s making sure a mother feels seen, supported, and confident in her care. By building relationships, removing barriers, and providing personalized, culturally responsive care, we’re helping families feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way. That’s what truly sets our program apart. 🖤🖤

Today we had the privilege of attending the Black Women Cultivating Change 3rd Annual Black Mental Health Summit, where we heard from incredible speakers who highlighted the importance of mental health in our communities.

As we continue to grow our Black Midwives Program, events like this remind us that supporting mothers goes far beyond pregnancy and birth. Maternal mental health is an essential part of improving outcomes for Black families. Every mother deserves to be heard, supported, and connected to culturally responsive care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

We even ran into our program counselor Sheryl! We thoroughly enjoyed the day and left feeling inspired, encouraged, and even more committed to the work we’re doing to support Black mothers in our community. 🖤🖤🖤
