I’m going to say something that I feel like more hairstylists need to hear and MIGHT be a little controversial…

I am SO tired of seeing heavily edited hair pictures from high level hair-influencers.

Yes we all want our work to look beautiful. Yes good lighting, angles, and editing can make a photo look more perfect. But when you start completely changing the color, smoothing out every strand, removing every bit of texture, or making the hair look nothing like it does in real life… you’re creating an expectation that another stylist or even the client may never be able to recreate.
Especially when your work is all over Pinterest.

And this is exactly why I think VIDEOS are so important.

You can filter a video. You can adjust lighting. But you can’t hide everything. Movement, dimension, texture, shine, density, the way the color actually looks when the hair moves… video gives a much more accurate representation of the work.

As hairstylists, I think we owe it to each other AND our clients to show the hair for what it actually is.

Perfect hair doesn’t mean perfectly edited hair.

I would much rather someone look at my work and know, Okay THAT is actually what her hair looks like in real life.🤍

Because at the end of the day, I’m not selling a filter. I’m selling my work.

The side of being a hairstylist that you don’t always see behind the chair. 🤍
The imposter syndrome. The pressure to constantly improve. The cost of products and education. The slow weeks. The cancellations. The comparison. The mental exhaustion. The pressure to always look like you have it all together.
I LOVE what I do but loving your career doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
There are so many parts of being a hairstylist that clients never see and so many things we don’t talk about with each other.

So here are a few hard truths I’ve learned along the way…
