A few days ago, I strained a few muscles in my leg, and my knee has been swollen ever since.
So today's agenda was simple: rest, elevation, and occasional movement to help with the swelling.
Today, I had one session. One opportunity to listen, be present, and to help.
They left without pain.
Sometimes one person is enough.
This is one thing I still love about what I do.
30 years.
On August 14, 1996, I became a massage therapist.
Since then, this work has taken me through sports, rehabilitation, education, wellness, and places I never imagined.
And I'm still learning.
Today, my work is less about trying to "fix" someone and more about listening, recognizing what is present, and helping create the conditions for movement, ease, and possibility.
I don't need to tell the entire 30 year history today. I just want to recognize it.
The clients who trusted me. The teachers who taught me. The colleagues who worked beside me. The athletes and teams who welcomed me. The students who allowed me to teach. The friends and family who who supported me.
Thank you for being part of these 30 years.
There will be more celebrating later. For today, I'm simply graeful to still be doing this work.
30 years.
And onward, with ease
Taking a holistic approach means seeing the whole person physically, mentally, and spiritually and recognizing how each can influence the others. That understanding helps inform how I approach the physical work.
The goal is to create conditions that allow the body and the person as a whole to heal, adapt, and recover with greater ease.

Teamwork. Everyone had a role in it.
Ten years ago today, the Wichita Force won the league championship.
"Everyone had a role in it," was something players often said, not just to me, but to staff, owners, interns, volunteers, sponsors, and fans. Even the fans received championship ring replicas.
We were a team. The only opponents were the teams we played on game day. Even then, they weren't truly against us. They were part of the playful competitiveness that makes sports exciting. In many ways, the entire league is part of the same community.
Years later, I experienced a very different culture. Instead of "we," there was an "us versus them" mentality. When that mindset develops between owners, staff, players, or even the people who support the organization, it creates distance instead of connection. Teams become divided, and everyone feels it.
If you own a business, remember that your clients, customers, and fans are there because they want to support you. Your employees and contractors are there because they believe in contributing their skills. Success comes from recognizing that everyone has a role.
To win as a team, you need to be a team.
