I began practicing yoga in 2004 when my youngest son was two years old. I was attracted to yoga for its relaxation benefits. At the time, I was raising five children and completely stressed out. I still remember my first teacher’s calm demeanor and soft voice. Yoga helped me to relax and to become more centered. It didn’t happen overnight, but within a few weeks I felt much better. After I had bee
n practicing for two years, my husband became aware of a teacher training program that was happening in our area. I enrolled right away, provided the deposit, and secured the last spot in the class. The training was a year long process, spending one weekend a month immersed in the yoga culture and even spending a week in Yogaville in Buckingham, VA. I received my 200-hour certification in the style of Integral Yoga in February of 2008 and went on to study Yoga Therapy, earning a 500-hour certification in Integrative Yoga Therapy in September of that same year. I have attended an Integrative Yoga for Children Training Program and an introduction to Integrative Restoration. Through teaching I began to understand that yoga is more than warrior postures or standing on your head. It is a way of life, a way of being, a way of thinking, a way to look at the world. After teaching for nine years, I bring a lot of experience and education into the practice. I offer a gentle style of yoga that works for everyone and that can be adapted to any person’s limitations. I have introduced yoga to children, Parkinson’s patients, immobile individuals, the elderly, and those who seek a gentle, restorative, mindful approach to improving their health. My passion in yoga lies in helping practitioners of all ages to unlock the body- mind connection through their awareness of breath and through the practice of Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation). My mission as a teacher is to turn as many people on to yoga that I can, the more people that practice yoga, the happier the world will be!
