Today is International Kangaroo Mother Care Awareness Day. A day that raises awareness for this easy, yet highly beneficial practice to care for newborn babies, especially for those born preterm. Kangaroo mother care includes skin-to-skin care with the parents and it is this physical contact, that supports the health and well-being of hospitalised babies so much. We are heartbroken that, due to the COVID-19 situation, so many parents cannot access the NICU and spend these precious moments with their little one.

Today, we want to be the voice for all these parents and we invite you to join! Upload and share a photo of your own kangaroo care memory with us. Let us send our heartfelt support to all NICU parents because we want them to have the same opportunities to kangaroo as we did. We want all babies to benefit from kangaroo care as our babies did, so they too can enjoy a loving, healthy start in life!

Today we launch our awareness campaign for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) “The world is bright, save our babies’ sight“ ROP is one of the leading causes of childhood blindness – Provide the right care, at the right time, in the right place!”. Through this, we want to put a focus on the need for a proper care for preterm babies in order to save their eyesight


This year’s motto of World Prematurity Day: Born Too Soon: Providing the right care at the right time, in the right place. The three sub-themes are: Ensure High Quality Care for Every Baby Everywhere; Nurturing Care for the Best Start in Life, and Empower Women and Adolescent Girls to Deciding for their Health.
