Heat wave will hit in 3 days.
Now that it's so hot and steamy and you spend a lot of time reading, what are your sci-fi book recommendations? If you could choose one sci-fi book only (not the film adaptation), which one would you choose? Trilogies count as 1.

UPDATE: LA BANG COMMUNE, THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE, PROACTIVELY BREAKS DOWN TEMPORARY ROADS TO ALLOW FLOODWATER DRAINAGE, REDUCE FLOODING RISK, AND ENSURE RESIDENT SAFETY
From last night to this afternoon (July 9th), Thai Nguyen province experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall, with many areas receiving 100 to approximately 200 mm of rain, causing localized flooding on some roads and low-lying areas, and affecting some crops and houses of the people.
In response to the situation, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the People's Council, and the leaders of the People's Committee of the commune directly inspected the scene, directed the police force, the commune's Military Command, the hamlets, and the disaster prevention and control task force to organize 24/7 duty, erect warning signs, reroute traffic, and be ready to assist the people.
At the Diep Bridge area, the large volume of water flowing from upstream caused the water level to rise. The People's Committee of the commune proactively contacted and coordinated with the Provincial Traffic Maintenance and Construction Consulting Management Board and the construction unit repairing the Diep Bridge to excavate and cut the bypass road to open up the waterway and increase drainage capacity. After implementation, the water level decreased, contributing to limiting flooding.

I haven't seen a storm this massive, well, since that night in Bangkok in 2002.
No seriously, it's way bigger. Winds got up to 280 kph a few days ago (off the charts) but it's only (lol 'only') 210 kph now in the eyewall, but that still classifies as a super typhoon, or using the old Saffir-Simpson scale, a Category 4. Kind of glad it"s not coming to Hanoi or Vietnam, but I worry about those on the coast of China who will bear the brunt of this system. It will still most likely barrel into China as a Cat 3 unless it reintensifies in shallower coastal waters, which is a thing now.

Extreme weather in China yesterday. Doesn't matter where you are now, these events are becoming commonplace. El Nino 2026.
Up in northeast VN as Maysak made landfall near Mong Cai, Quang Ninh. Hope everyone is OK. Goes to show that even a tropical storm (not quite a typhoon) can rapidly intensify and cause a storm surge and considerable 90 kph winds. Dissipating tonight and tomorrow morning. Then calmer for a while as Supertyphoon BaVi intensifies out in the westpac.
Meanwhile, An Bang is fairly calm and I'm getting ready to go out to the local and watch Canada slaughter Morocco in the first game of the round of 16. 😆😂🤣 Lucky to be alive.
