What is HEMA in nail products? 💅

HEMA (hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is a common ingredient used in many nail systems to help products bond properly to the natural nail. It plays an important role in preventing lifting and improving long-lasting results.

It’s also widely used in medical and dental fields—which shows it’s not a “bad” ingredient, but one that needs to be used correctly.

So why do we hear about allergies?
HEMA has a very small molecular size, which means it can pe*****te the skin more easily. With repeated skin contact over time, this can lead to sensitivity or allergic reactions.

The good news? This is largely preventable.

As professionals, we follow strict hygiene and application protocols to protect you:

✨ Avoiding product touching the skin
✨ Thoroughly removing any accidental contact immediately
✨ Using proper protective measures
✨ Maintaining high application standards

Is HEMA-free the answer?
Not always. Allergies can develop to many ingredients—not just HEMA. Simply switching products without correcting application techniques may not prevent future reactions.

Your safety comes first 🤍
If you ever notice redness, itching, or sensitivity, it’s important to let your nail technician know and consult a healthcare professional for proper testing.

Healthy nails start with informed care + professional application.

Dalton Weight — Why It Matters in Collagen

Marine and bovine collagen differ mainly in source and collagen type.

Marine collagen (from fish) is mostly Type I collagen, the primary collagen found in human skin, supporting elasticity, firmness, and fine lines.

Bovine collagen (from cows) contains Type I and Type III collagen, which support skin, hair, nails, and connective tissue.

However, an important factor beyond the source is Dalton weight (molecular weight).

Dalton weight refers to the size of the collagen peptides. The smaller the peptide, the easier it is for the body to absorb. These smaller fragments are known as hydrolysed collagen or collagen peptides.

Many standard collagen supplements contain molecules of around 10,000 Daltons, which are more difficult for the body to absorb efficiently. High-quality hydrolysed collagen is typically around 2,000 Daltons or lower, allowing it to pass more easily through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.

In simple terms: it’s not only about how much collagen you take, but how well your body can absorb it. Molecular size and quality are therefore key factors.

Clinical Evidence

Unlike skincare products, dietary supplements are not always required to prove clinical efficacy. For this reason, it is important to choose products that are:

• Clinically tested on the finished product
• Evaluated by independent laboratories
• Tested under dermatological supervision.

PEPTIDES vs GROWTH FACTORS vs EXOSOMES 🧬
What’s the REAL difference in skin rejuvenation?

In advanced aesthetics, these three are often grouped together — but they work at very different biological levels.

Here’s what actually matters:

🧪

✨ PEPTIDES
Small chains of amino acids that act as cell messengers.
They signal the skin to support collagen, strengthen the barrier, and improve repair processes.

✔️ Excellent for maintenance & prevention
✔️ Stable and safe for daily topical use
✔️ Best for early ageing & barrier support
⚠️ Mostly work in the upper skin layers unless delivery is enhanced

Think of peptides as: gentle communicators.

🧪

🌱 GROWTH FACTORS
Naturally occurring proteins that regulate cell growth and healing.

✔️ Stronger biological activity than peptides
✔️ Support regeneration and post-treatment recovery
✔️ Useful after microneedling, lasers, peels

⚠️ Stability and sourcing are critical
⚠️ Quality varies between brands

Think of growth factors as: direct instructions to repair.

🧪

🔬 EXOSOMES
Tiny extracellular vesicles released by cells. They contain growth factors, proteins, lipids, and genetic signalling molecules.

✔️ Advanced regenerative signalling
✔️ Used increasingly in post-procedure protocols
✔️ Potential for deeper cellular communication

⚠️ Research is still evolving
⚠️ Regulation and standardisation vary widely

Think of exosomes as: delivery packages carrying multiple repair signals.

🧪

💡 The Truth?
They don’t compete. They function at different levels of skin communication.

Peptides = maintenance & signalling
Growth factors = regeneration support
Exosomes = complex cellular messaging

Results always depend on:
✔️ Skin condition
✔️ Treatment modality
✔️ Delivery method
✔️ Consistency

There is no “miracle ingredient” — only intelligent skin strategy.
