🌸Sometimes a skin concern doesn’t suddenly become serious; we simply become used to living with it.
- The patch that keeps returning.
- The itch you’ve had for months.
- The mole that looks slightly different.
- The pigmentation that keeps changing.
- The scalp that is always irritated.
Your skin doesn’t need to be in crisis before it deserves attention.
This September, I want us to become a little more curious about our skin, hair and nails; particularly the changes we’ve quietly learnt to live with.

“Do I really need sunscreen on a rainy, cloudy day?”
It’s a question I hear often; especially when the weather is cooler and the sun feels less intense, but UV exposure doesn’t disappear when temperatures drop. UVA, in particular, is present throughout the year and can contribute to pigmentation, premature skin ageing and long-term skin damage.
So as we head into spring, don’t wait for the first hot day to restart your SPF routine.
Make sunscreen part of your everyday skincare - not just your summer skincare☀️
Is sunscreen already a daily step in your routine?

Hyperpigmentation in melanin-rich skin isn't stubborn because it's untreatable; it's stubborn because most advice isn't built for this skin type. The right approach exists. It just takes longer than a viral trend.

Braids, weaves, wigs and other protective styles can be part of how we care for and express our hair.
But protection should never come at the cost of your scalp.
If a hairstyle feels painfully tight, leaves your scalp tender, gives you a headache or causes visible pulling around the hairline, your scalp is telling you something.
Repeated tension can damage the hair follicles and contribute to traction alopecia (hair loss caused by prolonged pulling or tension).
And once the follicles are permanently damaged, the hair loss may not be reversible.
So if your hairline is thinning, your scalp is persistently tender after an install, or you’re noticing broken hairs around areas of tension, don’t ignore it. Your hairstyle should not hurt to be protective.
Have you ever had to loosen or remove a hairstyle because of pain or tenderness? Tell me in the comments. 👇🏽

Postpartum, genetic, and teen hair loss all look similar from the outside; but they need completely different treatment. If you've been guessing, it might be time to find out which one you're actually dealing with.

Psoriasis care has moved on from "just moisturise it." In my rooms, patients on biologics are seeing results that weren't possible a few years ago; and there's more on the way. If you've been managing flares alone, it might be time to find out what's actually available to you.
What's one thing about psoriasis you wish more people understood?

“A woman’s strength is not measured by how much she carries, but by the courage with which she continues to become.”
Today, we celebrate South African women; the women who nurture, lead, build, teach, heal and create.
May we continue to make space for women to be cared for as deeply as they care for others.
Happy Women’s Day🇿🇦🌸

We spend a lot of time caring for our hair, but how often do we check in on the skin underneath it?
A healthy scalp is usually:
1. Comfortable
It shouldn’t be persistently itchy, painful, burning or tender.
2. Calm
Frequent redness, inflammation, excessive flaking or recurring bumps may signal an underlying scalp condition.
3. Supporting healthy hair growth
Unusual shedding, thinning or patchy hair loss deserves attention rather than being dismissed as “normal.”
Your scalp is skin too; and it deserves care.
If you’re noticing persistent scalp changes or hair loss, speak to a dermatologist rather than relying on DIY treatments or guessing at the cause.

Patients come in with mercury-damaged skin. Steroid-induced acne. Permanent scarring from unregulated products bought without a single medical consultation. And the heartbreaking thing? They were just trying to feel confident in their skin.
The industry that sold them these products is still running. Still marketing. Still profiting.
Your skin colour is not a medical problem. And you deserve better than this.

There is no such thing as a ‘base tan’ that protects you. A tan is your skin’s distress signal. It means DNA damage has already occurred.
Wear your sunscreen SPF 50. Every. Single. Day.
Not just when you’re going to the beach. Not just in summer. Not just if you’re fair-skinned. Every day, in every season, for every skin tone.
UV damage is cumulative - it builds silently over years and decades. By the time the visible signs appear, the cellular damage is long done.
