BREAKING: β€˜Cat’ Matlala pulls out of plea deal in R228m SAPS fraud case

Vusimuzi β€œCat” Matlala has withdrawn from his plea and sentence agreement with the State in the R228 million SAPS Medicare24 tender fraud case.

The move came after the court rejected the proposed deal. Magistrate Ignatius du Preez ruled the agreed effective eight-year prison term was too lenient, and said a 12-year effective sentence would be more appropriate.

With the agreement off the table, the case will now proceed differently in court. Matlala was facing charges linked to alleged fraud and corruption around the SAPS medical tender.
