THE MIDWEEK MESSAGE ✝️

"Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day" (Exodus 16:4).

The above verse was an answer to a complaint that the people had brought against Moses and Aaron as they led them through the wilderness to the promised land. Bread rained down from heaven, what an exceptional way to be fed. The bread that came down from heaven was called manna. It was a symbol of God’s divine provision.

Every rainfall of Manna, sustained Israel for that day. The people were instructed to gather just enough for the need of that day. Every morning the people had to get out of their tents and look towards heaven for the day’s provision. They could not take extra; they could not store away for tomorrow. For those who were afraid that tomorrow’s provision would not come and took extra, they quickly found out that yesterday’s manna would rot today (Exodus 16:19-20).

This manna was not just God’s solution for their hunger; it spoke into a deeper message. A message that was later highlighted by Jesus to His followers as He taught them to pray “give us today our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). Not give us this year our daily bread. Give us this DAY our daily bread. In essence, God was teaching His people trust me to provide for your daily needs.
This is a reminder that God is our provider. Just as He rained bread from heaven for His people in the wilderness, He gives us exactly what we need, when we need it. We are called to depend on Him and trust Him. The question is not, can God provide, but do you believe that He can? If the Israelites believed that He was their provider, then every morning they had to go outside and look up to the one that is their help.

God’s people were being taught to live a life daily dependent on Him. As you walk with Christ, you will quickly realize that God encourages His people to be dependent on Him, not on our own abilities or circumstances. He is not raising us to be self- sufficient but to trust and rely on Him daily.

While the manna in the wilderness sustained the people for a day, I want to remind you that Jesus can sustain you forever. Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35). Let’s live a life dependent on Him.

SUNDAY INSPIRATION ✝️

"The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live" (Exodus 1:17).

Long before Moses was chosen to lead God’s people out of slavery, there were two ordinary women chosen by God to save His people from death and preserve their population. These two women were called Shiphrah and Puah. They were midwives in Egypt. The Israelites had multiplied rapidly in Egypt, becoming numerous and strong, so Pharoah, the ruler of Egypt, summoned Shiphrah and Puah; and instructed them to kill every boy that was born to a Hebrew woman in order to weaken their population.

Shiphrah and Puah were ordinary woman who possessed extraordinary courage. They defied the authority of Pharaoh by disobeying his wicked edict to kill the newborn Hebrew boys. These midwives jeopardised their own safety to protect and save the life of others. Without concern for themselves they sought to preserve life rather than take life. These women were God fearing and chose to be compassionate and not exercise cruelty. They stood in faith and obedience and preserved an entire generation amongst whom was Moses, the man God would later use to lead His people out of bo***ge into Freedom.

These women teach us to fear and obey God rather than fear man. They choose divine authority over human commands. It teaches us to choose what is right even when doing the right thing may become difficult.

They did not lose sight of the fact that while they were working for Pharoah, they still had a purpose and calling that was far greater than their secular job. They were positioned for such a time as this to save God’s people and protect His promise to them. It can be easy to lose sight of the reason you do what you do, especially under pressure. But we learn from these women to always connect to the heart of God.

In those days, midwives usually entered their profession because they could not themselves have children. However, God honoured these women for putting their trust and fear in Him. Scripture tells us that God rewarded them for their faithfulness and granted them families of their own (Exodus 1:21).

God used these women who seemed almost invisible to the rest of society, to play an instrumental role in His plan for humanity. Don’t ever underestimate your importance in this world. You were born on purpose and for purpose, so allow God to use you right where you are.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9).

Currently, we are witnessing many people that are confused and misled about their identity. There are discussions worldwide, in which people are trying to find a place to fit themselves in, a place to find their identity. Unfortunately, in all these conversations about identity, we have disconnected ourselves from the only person who has given us our identity. We have disconnected ourselves from the one who created us, and knows who we are.

He is the one who has numbered the hairs on our head (Matthew 10:30). The one who has engraved you on the palm of His hands (Isaiah 49:16). The one who shaped you and made you (Job 10:8). The God who has given you a unique thumbprint and calls you by name (Isaiah 43:1).

Identity is a fundamental aspect of the human experience. It shapes how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and how you navigate through life. Often, external and internal pressures provoke us to question who we are. However, the correct question should be Who does God say I am?

We all need clarity and confidence concerning our identity and purpose, and this clarity can only be given by the God in whose image and likeness we were created. The truth is your identity should not be found in what you do, how you look, where you live or what you have. Your identity is found in Christ.

This fight for identity is an old problem. After Jesus fasted for forty days and nights, the devil came along the way to question and challenge Jesus’ identity. He knew exactly who Jesus was, yet he led his first two temptations with a question, “if you are the Son of God” (Luke 4:3,9). The purpose for this line of questioning was to try and make Jesus question His identity. The biggest weapon in the arsenal of the adversary is for you to doubt you who are.

Well, let me remind you, you are not your mistakes; you are not your past. They are what you did or what happened to you but they are not who you are. Your identity is not defined by the world. You are who God says you are, loved, chosen, forgiven and transformed through faith in Christ.
