Bentonite clay is simple, but understanding how it behaves makes all the difference.
When hydrated, this mineral clay swells and creates a paste that can absorb excess
surface oil and help lift away loose debris during rinsing. It is one reason bentonite remains
such a popular starting ingredient for beginner skincare makers.
A simple fresh-use mask:
2 tablespoons bentonite clay
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon carrier oil, optional
Add the liquid gradually and mix until smooth. Apply a thin layer, avoid the eye and lip
areas, and rinse before the mask becomes completely dry and cracked.
Always patch test first. If your skin is dry or sensitive, shorten the contact time and use the
mask less frequently.
Formulator note: Once water is added, preservation and microbial safety become
important. Make only what you need for immediate use unless you are working with a
properly developed, preserved and tested formula.

Your first lip gloss batch does not need to feel mysterious.
Start by learning the job of each ingredient:
Versagel M750: body, clarity and gloss
Castor oil: glide, shine and pigment support
Vitamin E: antioxidant support
Mica: colour or shimmer, when approved for lip use
Flavour oil: flavour, when specifically suitable for lip application
One essential distinction: vitamin E helps slow oil oxidation, but it does not replace a
preservative when a formula requires one. Adding water or moisture-containing ingredients
changes the preservation conversation.
