🧠HOW TO SPOT A STROKE FAST🧠

Do you know stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and death worldwide? Stroke is an emergency that occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, leading to brain cell death.

🧠 FIRSTLY WHAT IS A STROKE

A stroke occurs when blood supply to a part of the brain is disrupted, depriving brain cells of oxygen and nutrients. Without immediate treatment, brain cells begin to die, which can lead to permanent damage, disability or even death.

🧠TYPES OF STROKE

There’re 3 types of stroke:
• Ischemic stroke
• Hemorrhagic stroke
• Transient ischemic attack or mini stroke

Ischemic stroke is the most common type, and is caused by a blockage in one of the blood vessels supplying the brain. Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel bursts, leading to bleeding in or around the brain. Transient Ischemic attack is a temporary blockage that resolves within minutes, but it should never be ignored.

🧠 HOW TO SPOT A STROKE FAST!
Recognizing a stroke on time is important because the earlier treatment is given, the better the chances of recovery. Use the FAST method:
✅ F - Face drooping
- One side of the face may droop or appear numb.
✅ A - Arm weakness
- One arm may drift downwards or appear weak
✅ S - Speech difficulty
- Their speech may be slurred, garbled or completely lost.
✅ T - Time to call for help
- Once you see these signs, you need to call for help immediately.

🧠 OTHER WARNING SIGNS OF STROKE
Besides FAST, other additional signs include:
√ Sudden confusion or trouble understanding
√ Severe headache with no known cause
√ Sudden vision problems
√ Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or trouble walking

🧠 WHAT DO YOU DO IF SOMEONE IS HAVING A STROKE?

√ Call for help immediately, time is critical
√ Keep the person calm and comfortable, don’t panic
√ Do not give them food or drink or any medication
√ Note the starting time
√ Monitor their breathing, and start CPR if they lose consciousness.
