👣 Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease is doing the rounds again!

HFMD is a common viral illness that can cause fever, mouth ulcers, and a rash or blisters on the hands, feet, and sometimes the bottom. While it usually resolves on its own, it can make little ones feel pretty miserable.

💧 Encourage fluids
🧼 Wash hands regularly
🏠 Keep children home from childcare or school if they’re unwell
👀 Watch for signs of dehydration

Most children recover within 7–10 days, but good hygiene is key to helping stop the spread.

Here’s what I’ve packed for a few nights away in my first aid kit ⛑️

🌡️ Febrile convulsions: here are the facts!

👉🏼 There is NOTHING you can do to prevent them
👉🏼 If your child has one, there no evidence to suggest they will occur every time your child has a fever
👉🏼 They rarely cause brain damage
👉🏼 They occur in children because their brains are extremely sensitive to rapid changes in body temperature

Please remember, do not put anything inside someone’s mouth during a seizure.

Babies and children are bound to fall and hit their head when learning to roll, crawl and walk - even more so as they get older and more adventurous with their play.

Most head injuries and falls are mild. However if your child falls from a height (more than twice their own height) please follow these rules :

🛑 DO NOT move them - unless in a position of danger ie on the road
🛑 DO NOT give anything to eat or drink - until they have been cleared by a medical professional
🛑 DO NOT attempt to realign any injuries or limbs
🛑 DO NOT shake or attempt to vigorously wake up a child who may be drowsy or unconscious
