Sanding it back properly takes time, because the pigment has to come out of the grain, not just off the surface. Done right, you get the original light, clean Scandinavian finish back.

Varnish is a film. Film peels.
Teak moves with heat and moisture. A varnish film can’t move with it — so it cracks, water gets underneath and can’t escape, and you get black staining and lifting edges. Fixing it means a full strip-back.
A nano shield bonds into the surface of the timber instead of building a layer over it. There’s no film thick enough to crack or peel, so it wears away gradually rather than failing all at once.
Don’t varnish teak.
