That summer hobby you love is quietly wrecking your shoulders. We have a theory about which one.

Gardening looks gentle until you have spent four hours hunched over a flower bed.

Golf swings the same shoulder a hundred times and calls it a relaxing afternoon.

Paddleboarding turns your whole upper back into a surprise core workout.

And hauling kids, coolers, and folding chairs from the car? That is just deadlifting with extra cargo.

Your shoulders keep score.

The tight neck, the cranky trap, the knot that shows up every July. We know the muscle behind it, and a focused therapeutic massage can talk it back down.

👉 So caption this for us. Which summer hobby got you this year? Drop it in the comments.

Building a summer running base means adding mileage your body can absorb.

This is the base phase. Not race week. Not the recovery weeks after the finish line. These are the weeks where you stack volume and ask your legs to adapt without falling apart.

Here is the part most runners skip.

Training load is stress, and tissue adapts during recovery, not during the run itself. Skip the recovery and that load stops building fitness and starts building injury.

That is where therapeutic massage earns a spot in your training block.

Releasing tight calves, hamstrings, and hip flexors keeps your stride efficient and your tissue ready for the next session. Improved circulation helps clear the byproducts of hard mileage, so you show up fresh instead of flat.

Train hard. Recover on purpose.

With the Servus Edmonton Marathon landing August 16, the base you build now is what carries you to the start line healthy.

Ten years of consistent self-care looks like showing up, again and again, for the body that carries you everywhere.

July is Self-Care Month, and we keep coming back to one question. What does a decade of steady care actually look like?

One of our longtime clients answered it better than we ever could.

"After 10 years & 75+ treatments, the level of professionalism and quality of service remains at the highest standards."

Read that again.

Seventy-five treatments. Ten years. And the standard never slipped.

That is the part we are proudest of. Not one good appointment, but quality that holds steady, visit after visit, year after year. The same skilled hands, the same care, every single time you walk through the door.

Self-care was never meant to be one grand gesture. It is the small, repeated choice to give your muscles what they need before the tension turns into pain.

A decade from now, you will be glad you started.

Self-care can do more than lift your mood. It can change how your body moves the next morning.

There is a real difference between feeling good and functioning well. A treat feels good for an hour. Restoring how your muscles actually work keeps paying off for days.

When tissue stays tight, it limits your range, strains the joints nearby, and keeps your nervous system on alert. Easing that tension hands your body back the motion it was built for.

Real self-care is functional.

This International Self-Care Day, look past the quick lift. Therapeutic massage works on the mechanics underneath, so you bend easier, sleep deeper, and recover faster.

You leave feeling good. You keep functioning better.

One massage a month sounds modest. The thing it quietly builds is not.

Your body keeps a running tab. Tension from a long desk day, a hard workout, a short night of sleep, it stacks up. One good treatment clears the backlog.

Then ordinary life starts refilling it.

Here is what regular maintenance actually does.

When you come in before a knot turns into a problem, your muscles never get the chance to fully lock in. Your nervous system gets repeated practice at calming down, and it starts finding that settled place a little faster on its own.

Sleep goes deeper. You reach a bit further before something pulls. You stop bracing your shoulders without even noticing you had been bracing them.

None of this lands in a single visit. It lands in the rhythm.

That is the real idea behind monthly massage therapy. Not a rescue mission when you can barely turn your head. A steady hand on the tension before it gets to run your whole week.

Your shoulders were never meant to live up around your ears.

Taste of Edmonton and K-Days both wrap up this weekend, and the whole city knows it.

The lineups get longer. The midway gets tighter. You end up standing in more queues than you actually walk through, shifting your weight from one hip to the other while the line barely moves.

That kind of tension sits differently than a normal day on your feet. It is the bracing, the holding, the small tightening that comes from waiting in a crowd instead of moving through it.

Waiting is its own kind of work.

July has been about slowing down on purpose, and the honest truth is that festival season does not leave much room for that until it is actually over.

So once the last ride closes and the last plate is empty, give your body the same permission you gave your calendar this month.

Most people book a summer maintenance massage expecting a routine hour. What our RMTs are doing is closer to detective work.

When our hands first settle onto your back, we are not only working the spot you mentioned at the door. We are reading the tissue around it. The shoulder that sits a little higher. The muscle that braces when you breathe in. The tightness you stopped noticing months ago because it quietly became your normal.

Your body keeps its own record.

So often, the knot you flagged is not the real story. It is just the loud one.

The quieter pattern is what we follow, the hip that has been compensating for a sore knee, the jaw you clench at your desk without realizing, the lower back picking up slack for everything else.

This is the part of the work we love most. Finding the thing you could not have known to ask for, then giving it the room and the attention to finally let go.

You come in for maintenance. You leave knowing your body a little better than you did.

Summer heat can leave your muscles cramping and tight, and there is a clear reason why.

When you sweat through a hot Edmonton day, you lose fluid and electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Those minerals are what tell your muscles when to contract and when to relax.

Lose too much, and the signal gets noisy. Muscles fire when they should be resting. That is the sudden grab in your calf or the knot that will not let go.

Heat compounds it. Warm, dehydrated tissue holds tension more readily, so a muscle that was already working hard stays guarded instead of settling.

Hydration is your first line of defense.

Therapeutic massage is the next. Hands-on work brings circulation to tight, cramp-prone muscles, helps them release that guarded hold, and eases the tension that stacks up across a busy summer.

Getting your mobility back after spinal surgery is a slow, quiet kind of victory.

One of our clients knows this better than most. They came to us after spinal surgery still carrying pain, still measuring each day by what their body would not let them do.

Rehabilitation is rarely one big moment. It is a hundred small ones. Bending to tie a shoe. Reaching for a top shelf. Sleeping through a whole night without bracing.

Here is what they told us, in their own words:

"The RMTs at Got Knots have been the key in my rehabilitation post spinal surgery. My pain is gone. My mobility is back. I would not be where I am now without them."

Read that last line again.

This is what registered massage therapy can do alongside your medical care. Skilled hands, a real treatment plan, and patience. We work with the muscles around the spine to ease guarding, restore range of motion, and help your body trust movement again.

You do not have to live braced against your own body. ❤️
