We are very excited to announce the opening of our brand new large, private, beautiful and serene Aesthetics Facility on February 3rd, 2014. We are located across from the Four Seasons Pool and next to the Two Rivers Art Gallery, with drive-up private parking. Senior Esthetician / Laser Technician Velinda Pellegrino
Velinda brings two decades of professional experience to the Azure team. As a senior certified laser technician and skin care specialist, Velinda's passion and commitment to her clients is evident in the delivery of her treatments and her gentle caring manner. Velinda has extensive knowledge of anti-aging, acne and skin rejuvenation treatments. She specializes in vascular laser therapy, phototherapy, non-invasive body contouring, laser hair removal, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, professional skin care education and Jane Iredale make-up application. Velinda's warmth and commitment has resulted in many long-term relationships with her clients, built on a foundation of trust. Senior Esthetician Ashley Woods
Ashley has been working in the field of aesthetics since 2008 and has experience with a wide range of aesthetic services including massage, waxing, pedicures, Bio sculpture nails, facials and skincare. Ashley is very experienced with our Jane Iredale mineral makeup line and can also provide expert level Bio sculpture Gel Nail and Eyelash Extension applications. Janine has been in the aesthetics field since 2001 and brings extensive aesthetic training and experience to the Azure team. Before coming to Canada, she trained and worked at Beautiko in Pretoria, South Africa. Janine also holds a UK based international certificate (ITEC) in Aesthetics, obtained after completing a 2 year, full time extensive training program. Janine can provide professional treatments for massage, facials, waxing, pedicures, manicures, Bio sculpture nails, C+B laser, IPL & more. Janine brings an outgoing personality and unbounded enthusiasm to the Azure team. She looks forwards to serving previous clients, since returning from maternity leave, and she welcomes new clients who would like to book a skin care consultation or aesthetic service. Kelsey has been with Dr. Kurz since 2009. Above and beyond her RN qualifications, Kelsey has certification as a certified Plastic Surgery nurse. This qualification requires extensive study, experience and examinations and Kelsey is the only nurse in Northern BC to achieve this advanced certification level. She is able to provide a variety of Laser and RF energy based procedures & aesthetic services in addition to surgical nursing duties, patient consultations and follow ups. "It has to peel or it didn't work."
That's the one we hear most, and it isn't true. Visible flaking isn't the measure of a peel — the work happens at the cellular level, loosening the bonds between dead surface cells and clearing congestion inside the pore. Some people flake for a few days, some barely at all, and both treatments did the same thing.
Two more worth clearing up. Peels aren't inherently harsh: strength, acid and formulation are chosen for the skin in front of us, and an acne-focused salicylic peel is a different treatment from a gentle hydrating one. Hair doesn't grow on a schedule. It grows in cycles — and that's the whole reason a laser series exists.
Every follicle runs its own clock through three phases. Anagen is active growth, when the hair is still connected to the follicle. Catagen is the transition. Telogen is rest, when the hair has detached and is on its way out.
The laser is absorbed by pigment in the hair, and that energy travels down the shaft as heat to disable the follicle at the root. It only works while the hair is growing and still attached. A resting hair has nothing to carry the energy down.
At any given appointment, only a share of the hairs in an area are in that growing phase. Space the sessions weeks apart and a new share has rotated in each time. Treat, wait, treat again.
That's why we recommend a series — not upselling, just biology.

Three things before your laser appointment — and one reason why.
Shave the night before. Don't wax or pluck for at least four weeks: the laser targets the hair in the follicle, and waxing removes exactly what we're aiming at.
Stay out of the sun and skip self-tanner. Tanned skin changes how the laser reads pigment and limits what we can safely do.
Arrive with clean skin — no lotion, no deodorant on the treatment area.
