EXTENSION ARTISTS — WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. 👏
This client came to me needing an emergency correction before leaving town. Her previous weft installation was slipping, uncomfortable, hurting her scalp, and simply wasn’t sitting the way it should.
I had a very limited amount of time, so I worked with brand-new extensions she already had and did what I could to give her a safer, more comfortable, properly placed install. We didn’t have time to highlight and completely customize the color blend—that part will happen when she gets back. This appointment was about fixing the installation first.
And this is exactly why I say: master your craft before you master your pricing.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with charging what your work is worth. Extension work is time-consuming, specialized, and expensive to learn. But charging premium prices should come with premium knowledge, proper placement, clean sewing, appropriate tension, and an install that protects the client’s natural hair and scalp.
A client should NEVER be paying an outrageous amount of money for an install that hurts, slips, or has to be corrected by another stylist.
Keep educating yourself. Keep practicing. Keep improving. The money will follow the skill. 💯
This isn’t about tearing another stylist down—it’s about raising the standard of extension work and putting the health and comfort of the client FIRST.
