I have a confession:

When I launched Emerging Women in 2013, I was raising two little kids while building something I deeply believed in. We gathered thousands of women. Brené Brown. Arianna Huffington. Elizabeth Gilbert. 💫 The energy felt electric — like we were opening a door to a new way of leading.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped dancing.

Before Emerging Women, I taught Soul Sweat for 15 years and trained over 50 teachers. When the company grew, that part of me went quiet.

Someday, I told myself.

Someday is now.

I recently started teaching dance again — in person, once a week — and I forgot how much I needed real human connection. The laughter. The movement. The feeling of being fully alive in a room together.

And it reminded me why I started all of this in the first place.

I still believe the world needs more connection-based leadership. More power with, not power over. More spaces where humans can gather, belong, and flourish.

That’s why we created Emerging Human. And lately, I’ve been asking an even bigger question:

What does it look like to build a life where the pieces actually fit together?

Work that lights you up. Community. Embodiment. Meaning. Joy.

I don’t have the full answer yet. But I know I’m building toward it.

I started teaching again — once a week, locally, in-person, with actual human beings moving together in the same room. And I forgot how much I needed this.

The laughter. The sweat. The familiar faces slowly becoming community.

There’s something special about stepping out of your head, back into your body, and sharing that energy with other people.

A little movement, a little joy, a little feeling alive again.

Chantal Pierrat founded SoulSweat™ in 2003 with one goal: to dance funky, sweat hard, and energize her spirit — and to make a class where other people could do the same. She’d been dancing her whole life — ballet, jazz, modern, and yoga, layered with years inside African, Latin, hip-hop, house, and the international rave scene — and she wanted a room that pulled all of it together into something joyful, unselfconscious, and truly transformational.
Two decades in, that’s still the heart of every class she teaches. She also leads workshops and trainings for students who want to take SoulSweat deeper, including those becoming SoulSweat teachers themselves.
Off the dance floor, Chantal is founder and CEO of Emerging Human, a leadership development company working with Fortune 100 organizations, and CEO of Emerging Women, a 30,000-person community advancing inclusive leadership. She lives in Boulder with her husband and two sons.
