The name Recherché is a French word finding its way up the literary ladder from the early 1700s. Its etymological background refers to a very rare item being sought out with care: exotic, of studied refinement and elegance, pertaining to obscure excellence. Now why would one choose to bring back a literary fossil as one's company name? It is because, in this day and age, desirable things have beco

Turns out I like ocean fishing… my youngest loves to fish, I haven’t river fished in years. It just doesn’t excite me. I’d rather be IN the water rather than waiting for something to bite…

But Ocean fishing- when you have ZERO idea what’s on the line. That, it turns out, I enjoy.

All was catch and release. We caught 2 hammer head sharks, 2 large sting rays, 1 flounder, and many, many toad fish.

I am fighting with an 80-100 lb ray on the line…

Charleston was wonderful- everything I thought it might be. Steeped in many layers of history and the old town can not help but show off it’s antiquated charm.

We went on a carriage ride, wandered the streets, ate many delicious meals, looked at apartments, and went to a sweetgrass festival.

We left this morning driving across the deep south backwoods. Very eyeopening indeed. Many places I found myself grateful for a sturdy and reliable car. There is a poverty back there, like I have seen in few places in the USA. The kind of poverty that is unkempt and shows little to no pride of ownership.

And after a few hours (4 to be exact) we found ourselves in Greenville. I am not certain what I was expecting but this town certainly over delivered.

Wheels up!
Headed to South Carolina with my sons to check out where my oldest is hoping to move.

We’ll spend the majority of time in Charleston, but have adventures planned all over the state.

Have you spent time in SC? What is on your “Must Do” list?

Two years ago today, I was in Ethiopia working with and spending time with these beautiful children.

This particular trip was 7 years in the making… 7 years prior, I had heard about this amazing orphanage that paired orphans with widows. It seems like such a natural and perfect fit.

For 7 years, the question rolled around in my heart and my head, if here, then why not everywhere?! Until one day I simply had to go find out the answer for my self…

Happy 250th Birthday to this beloved country. America 🇺🇸 Does it have it’s problems? Sure… But all places do.

It wasn’t until I left the USA, that I began to realize how truly special it is here. And throughout the many, many places I have been, I have always found people willing to talk to me in truth about their countries and also get to hear how they see America. They sit in awe of stories of this great nation.

One thing that has been very cool to see over the last few weeks of FIFA, is people from other countries, who have been told how terrible America is, come here and experience it first hand. In complete awe.

Happy 4th. Have fun. And please stay safe. 🇺🇸

My step sisters and I descended on Buffalo Wyoming this weekend from all corners of the US to surprise their mama (and my step mom: maybe the best step mom to ever live) for a weekend of adventure and girl time.

I stayed at one of my favorite old hotels, the Occidental (pictures in stories), full of history and old charm. It’s a place I have stayed many times and had the pleasure to create some new memories at.

I am grateful for those that come into our lives and stay long term. Relationships that survive and thrive decades are truly precious. My stepmom, now in her 80’s was an instrumental part in my growing up well…and seeing all of these eomen through the lense of adulthood, is truly a gift. 🙏🏻❤️

I can not say enough about the young man you have grown into. You are truly one of the most caring people I have ever met. A huge heart and a healthy dose of IDGAF…. It has been a great pleasure in my life watching you forage your own path become the person you are today. We’ve had many, many adventures together and I look forward to many more. I love you son, happy birthday!

For 20 years, we’ve been collecting sapphires. It started when my oldest was tiny and and has continued on as my youngest had grown.

I had the idea of collecting sapphires all of their young lives, and then having these stones cut and made into a ring and a tennis bracelet set for each of my son’s future wives…

Today we added 25 large carats to that collection…

Most all of my gardening is done with this little hand tool. It was my grandmothers and it spend hundreds of hours in her hand before mine.

I think much of my love of flowers came from spending summers outside gardening and weeding with her and my grandfather. I have a deep fondness for this time in my life.

I hear my grandfathers vioce telling me if I cleaned off the tools after use, they would last a lifetime. I hear my grandmother teaching me about massaging the roots before transplanting a flower…

There isn’t a week in the summertime that this isnt in my hand at some point. It turns out, I have become sentimental over the simple things. Things that remind me of my connection with others….

Shifting into the warmer weather months, naturally, everything starts to change.
Our clothing gets lighter, we gravitate towards lighter skincare, we eat lighter foods... It's the natural progression from winter to summer.

Winter is for:
Layers of clothing, cozyness, richer and more hydrating skincare products, heavier foods such as homemade bread and soups, root veggies...

Summer is all about:
light clothing, linne, silk, cotton, light weight skincare with the emphasis on things like hyaluronic acid and squalene oil, salad, berries, fresh garden veggies...

What things do you notice shift this time of year?
