Winning…

Kansas City business owners:

I’m curious—what impact has the World Cup had on your business so far?

I’ve been talking with business owners across the metro and the feedback has been surprisingly mixed.

Some businesses are seeing a boost in sales.

Others are reporting little to no impact.

And some are actually seeing sales decline as regular customers stay home to avoid traffic and congestion.

I’m not posting this as criticism. The World Cup is an incredible opportunity for Kansas City, and we’re proud to be hosting the world.

I’m asking because if some businesses aren’t benefiting as expected, we still have time to do something about it.

A few ideas that come to mind:

✅ A “Kansas City Is Open for Business” campaign to encourage residents to continue supporting local businesses

✅ A KC Local Business Passport that encourages visitors and residents to explore businesses throughout the metro

✅ Daily spotlights on local businesses through KC2026, Visit KC, Chambers, and local media

✅ Resident-only specials and “Support Local KC” promotions during the tournament

Business owners, what are you seeing?

Tell us what industry you’re in and what you’re experiencing.

I’d love to hear from other business owners, community leaders… please tag them…

If enough businesses are experiencing similar trends, maybe there’s an opportunity for all of us to work together to make sure more local businesses benefit from this historic moment.
