FYI
The forest is still speaking. Come listen with us.
Severed Branches Press works out of Olympia, on the South Salish Sea. They put out journals and books for people who still treat a forest as something you are in relationship with, not a view and not a resource pile. Ecology, ceremony, and land defense sit in the same room for them. That is the whole posture, more or less. Print is just one way they stay with it.
The new one on the table is 'Defending the World Tree', volume two, 'Trees of Ceremony'. Midsummer release. About a hundred and fifty pages, four hundred copies, hand numbered. Twenty writers and artists. The issue is about trees people pray with, grieve with, organize around, the ones that still hold a place together and the ones already cut. Some pieces stay with one tree. Some stay with what logging and colonial forestry have done to those ties, and with the ceremonies that try to keep them from going quiet.
You will also see 'Fight Like an Animal', Arnold Schroder’s book, which comes out of a long life in land defense and asks how people actually find the nerve to act. 'Unsettling Ecologies' is the Olympic Peninsula reportback: clearcuts, tribal sovereignty, the argument on the ground. 'Woundscapes' is earlier, more raw, the scar work.
Severed Branches Press will be at Radiance for Olympia Fall Arts Walk, Friday October 2 and Saturday October 3, 12 to 6 both days. 106 5th Ave SE.
Radiance will be open:
