Here’s a quick checklist of what every client should know before a facial:

1. Avoid exfoliation & irritants – Stop using retinoids, acids, or harsh scrubs 3–5 days prior to prevent over-sensitivity.
2. Skip extractions at home – Picking or using pore strips can cause inflammation and make professional extractions more difficult.
3. Be honest about your skin – Disclose any allergies, rosacea, acne treatments (like Accutane), or recent procedures (laser, waxing, peels).
4. No sunburn – Reschedule if you’re sunburned; heat-sensitive treatments could worsen damage.
5. Hydrate, but skip heavy makeup – Cleanse lightly before arrival; heavy makeup or tanning products can interfere with the analysis.
6. Share your full routine – Bring product names or photos so the esthetician can spot conflicting ingredients.
7. Expect some redness – Mild flushing after extractions or exfoliation is normal and usually fades within hours.
8. Avoid shaving right before – Shaving (especially for men) can cause stinging if followed by strong peels or enzymes.
9. Know the type of facial – Relaxation facials differ from clinical ones (e.g., deep-cleansing, hydrating, anti-aging, or acne-focused).
