The disrespect in this silk press conversation is crazy. So allow me to break this down as a licensed professional.
When you're looking for a service at a price that comfortably fits within your beauty budget, there are options.
You can consider a cosmetology school, Ulta, JCPenney, or another salon environment where the pricing structure may better fit your budget.
But there is a difference between receiving a service from someone working within an established location and receiving a service from an independent licensed professional who works for themselves.
An independent professional's prices aren't based solely on the hairstyle you see when you leave the chair.
There is a business behind that service.
I'll use myself as an example.
I specialize in hair care.
So if I'm pricing a silk press, my price is based on more than simply straightening your hair.
I'm considering the care of your hair, the condition of your hair and scalp, the products being used, my professional knowledge, the technique I use to perform the service, the time required, and the expenses associated with operating my business.
You may be able to receive a silk press somewhere else for less.
That's okay.
That means you've found an option that better fits your beauty budget. It does not automatically mean the independent professional's price is too high.
Those are two different conversations.

I recently saw a video floating around where someone described their hair as “waterproof.”

Your hair is not waterproof 💜

I've always said there are levels to porosity.

Based on what I can see in the video, his hair displays characteristics that I would associate with low porosity. When he went underneath the water, his hair did not appear to absorb the water easily.

Now, have I personally worked with his hair? No.

So I'm not assessing his hair or saying with certainty that he has low porosity. I'm simply speaking from my professional perspective based on the characteristics and behavior I can see.

And when we're talking about low porosity, there can be different factors that play a role in how the hair accepts and retains water.
