Each September, we’re reminded of a history that is still too often misunderstood or ignored. Indigenous children were taken from their families and sent to residential and boarding schools across Canada and the United States institutions designed to strip away their identities, languages, and cultures.

This wasn’t a brief chapter in history. It continued for more than a century, leaving generations of families and communities to carry the pain.

Investigations have confirmed that children died in these schools and that many were buried in unmarked graves. The full number may never be known.

We remember the children who never came home. We honour the survivors, families, and communities who continue to carry this history. And we listen, learn, and tell the truth because remembrance must lead to action.
