A little cloth. A lot of intention. š§”
This is The Carter Cradleāmy way of using cloth to support the head while I guide a gentle neck stretch. Watch how I shift my stance and adjust the pull. Iām feeling for the angle that meets the body where it is, one small movement at a time.
Thatās The Body Mechanic at work. At Journey Bodyworks, even the quietest part of a session has purpose.
Nine+ years of listening to bodies, trusting the work, and building Journey one intentional session at a time. āØ
To be recognized by BusinessRate as a Top 3 Massage Therapist in Virginia Beach for 2026 is a beautiful reminder that consistency speaks.
Journey Bodyworks was never built to feel like an assembly line. Every session is personal. Every body tells a different story. Every nervous system needs something different.
So this recognition belongs to every client who trusted me enough to lie on my table, breathe a little deeper, release what they were carrying, and allow the work to meet them exactly where they were.
5.0 stars. 120 Google reviews. Top 3 in Virginia Beach.
Iām grateful. Iām grounded. And Iām still evolving.
The work speaks. š
This isnāt just a session ā itās a whole nervous-system exhale. āØ
Ear candling paired with red laser therapy creates a slow, intentional moment of stillness while supporting the bodyās natural relaxation response. The warm light, focused care, and quiet atmosphere invite you to soften, tune inward, and become more aware of what your body has been asking for.
At Journey Bodyworks, Iām always blending ancient ritual, modern wellness tools, and intuitive touch to create experiences that feel less like an appointment⦠and more like coming home to yourself.
Your body speaks.
Your job is to get quiet enough to listen. šæš„
Thereās cooking⦠and then thereās cooking with FIRE. š„šæ
Today I took these oxtails back to the elementsāslow smoking over an open hearth, wrapped and layered with plantain leaves so the meat could catch that deep earthy smoke while holding onto all those rich juices.
Then came the purple yam and pumpkin⦠soaking up everything happening in that pot. š¤š¾
This is the kind of cooking that speaks to something deeper in me.
Fire.
Earth.
Smoke.
Time.
Intuition.
No rushing the process. No trying to make every piece look perfect. Just tending the fire, watching the food transform, and letting my senses tell me when itās ready.
The oxtails came out rich, tender and deeply flavored, with that unmistakable taste you only get when food has actually spent time with smoke and flame.
Iām falling more and more in love with hearth cooking because it feels less like following a recipe and more like remembering. š„
Food prepared with intention just hits different.
Would you eat a plate of these? šš„
Self-care doesnāt always have to be elaborate. Sometimes itās warm water, intentional touch, and giving your body a few quiet minutes to catch up with you. šæš¦¶š¾
For this botanical mineral foot ritual, I used repurposed herbal pulp and infused-oil residue from my ginger tonic, along with magnesium flakes, Epsom salts, and rosemary essential oil.
While my feet soaked, I massaged them directly in the warm waterāworking through the arches, heels, toes, and ankles.
Why it felt so good:
⨠Warm water helps the tissues soften and encourages relaxation.
⨠Foot massage stimulates sensory receptors, eases muscular tension, and brings awareness back into an area of the body that works hard for us every day.
⨠Epsom salt and magnesium flakes create a soothing mineral bath that many people find comforting for tired, overworked feet.
⨠Rosemary adds an uplifting, refreshing aromatic element to the experience.
⨠Bare feet on the grass afterward became the perfect transition from self-care into grounding and stillness.
What I love most is that this ritual also reflects how I work with plants: use them fully, respectfully, and intentionally.
The tonic nourished me.
The botanicals were infused into oil.
And even the remaining plant material found another purpose.
Nothing wasted. Everything honored.
Sometimes wellness isnāt about adding more.
Sometimes itās about slowing down enough to receive whatās already here.

āļø The body remembers what it has been through ā even after it has healed.
This client has had a knee replacement, and this session was about supporting the body where it is now.
Using the SubZero localized cryo machine, I brought focused cold therapy to the knee to help soothe the area, calm soreness and swelling, and give the surrounding tissues a different kind of therapeutic input.
But Iām never only looking at the knee.
After a major surgery, the body learns new movement patterns. It protects. It compensates. It shifts weight differently. My work is about listening to those changes and helping the body find more ease, mobility, and trust in movement again.
Sometimes healing needs pressure.
Sometimes it needs movement.
Sometimes it needs cold. āļø
The tool may change.
The intention is always the same: meet the body where it is and support where it wants to go.
7 years ago⦠and the hands already knew. āØ
Watching this back reminds me that Journey Bodyworks was never built around simply āgiving massages.ā I was already listening differentlyāwatching how the tissue responded, feeling where the body guarded, following the fascia, and letting my hands have a conversation with the nervous system.
Years later, the work is deeper. More intentional. More refined. More me.
The tools have expanded.
The science has expanded.
My understanding of the body has expanded.
But the foundation is still the same:
Listen. Feel. Respond. Donāt force.
The body will tell you what it needs when you learn how to hear it.
This is why I call myself a body mechanic. Iām not chasing symptoms. Iām looking at patterns, compensation, movement, tension, energyāand the whole human being on my table.
Seven years of evolution⦠and Iām still learning from every body I touch. šæšš½
Journey Bodyworks ā where bodywork becomes body awareness.
Cupping a bald head is definitely an experience! šāØ
But beneath the laughter, there is intention. The scalp holds tension tooāespecially around the temples, forehead, jaw and base of the skull. Gentle cupping creates space within the superficial tissues, supports local circulation and gives the nervous system another invitation to soften.
At Journey Bodyworks, I listen beyond where the discomfort speaks. Sometimes the body leads me to places you never imagined needed attention. Every session is its own journeyāand clearly, no area is off limits. š
Iām embracing my hearth cookingāwhere food, fire, nature and intention meet. š„šæ
This red snapper was seasoned with fresh herbs, lemon, lime and orange, along with the ginger pulp left over from making my homemade ginger b**r. I wrapped it in plantain leaves and let it slow-cook over the open fire.
The leaves held in all that moisture while the fire added a delicate layer of smoke. When I opened the bundles, the fish was tender, juicy and falling right off the bonesābright citrus, warm ginger, fresh herbs and just enough fire in every bite.
Nothing wasted. Everything transformed. This is more than cooking for meāitās connection, creativity and remembering something ancient within myself.
The hearth is becoming one of my favorite places to be. š„šš
The hands that create art deserve care too.
Heās a tattoo artistāso his body is the quiet workspace behind every piece. Long hours leaning in, holding tension, staying still while his hands do the storytelling.
He came in with shoulder restriction, nerve discomfort, and low back pain. Now, because weāve been consistent twice a month, we donāt start from scratch. I know his patternsāwhere he locks up, where he compensates, where stress shows up first.
Today was all about opening the shoulder and upper back. Arm extended, slow intentional work, meeting the tissue where it is instead of forcing it.
I used my stainless steel tool to help release deeper restriction, then finished with the Terahertz wand to calm everything down and bring the body back to center.
This is what consistency doesāit builds trust, awareness, and real change over time.
Heās moving better, hurting less, and most importantlyāheās starting to feel his body before it screams at him.
Itās not just about relief. Itās about longevity in the work he loves.
